Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine – or TCM, refers to a holistic system of medicine that has been practiced for several millennia. As a practice, TCM includes various modalities such as acupuncture, herbal medicine, diet therapy, and more. According to Dr. Geoffrey Powell of the Powell Chiropractic Health Center in Newberry, FL, chiropractic care and the practice of Chinese Medicine emanate from two different theoretical foundations; however, the two alternative healthcare modalities often complement one another.

How Does Traditional Chinese Medicine Relate to Chiropractic Care?

Chinese medicine seeks to treat one’s health holistically - viewing the body as an interconnected system that seeks to balance Qi. Qi (pronounced “Chee”) is a concept that refers to the energy force that flows across various meridians or energetic pathways throughout the body. According to those who practice the long-standing art of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), a harmonious flow of Qi is essential to maintaining good health. When an imbalance or blockage exists in the flow of Qi, the result often leads to illness or discomfort that manifests at your body's most vulnerable point.

Chiropractic care also recognizes the interconnectedness of the body. However, as a practice, chiropractors work to restore proper alignment of the spine/musculoskeletal system to enhance and optimize one's overall health by improving nerve function. And both healthcare alternative approaches -

  • Emphasize individualized treatment plans based on the patient's specific health condition, lifestyle, and goals.
  • Recognize the value of preventive care in maintaining one's overall health and well-being.
  • Focus on specific pain points to reduce acute and chronic discomfort or pain.
  • Use complementary techniques to support one's overall health.

While Chinese medicine and chiropractic care are based on differing foundations, many find that combining the aspects of each alternative healthcare approach can provide a more comprehensive and personalized approach that allows patients to achieve their health goals and wellness objectives.

The Powell Chiropractic Health Center offers nutritional and functional training and acupuncture services, a fundamental component of Traditional Chinese Medicine, to meet the health and cosmetic needs of our clients who live in and around Newberry.
